New JCS Transfer Process

Jefferson County Schools has reviewed the JCS Transfer Procedure to ensure the best learning and teaching environment for students and staff. The new procedure prioritizes students in a school's attendance zone and smaller class sizes.

The JCS Transfer Application opens today, January 1. Priority placement and notification are given to applications received from January 1 to January 31.

Transfer Policy Highlights

  • Each transfer application submitted will be time stamped and logged in chronological order of when it was received.

  • Transfer requests are approved on a year-to-year basis.

  • Student transfers may be denied due to the following reasons: capacity enrollment, level 3 or 4 discipline infraction within the last year, and lack of program or services.

  • Voluntary transfers to a school may be returned to their homeschool at any time to accommodate students residing in a school’s attendance zone.

  • Voluntary transfers are contingent upon the parent/guardian providing transportation.

START THE NEW SEMESTER WITH A FOCUS ON HEALTH AND ATTENDANCE

We hope you had a restful winter break and are ready to kick off this brand new semester! As we head into winter, we know cold and flu season can sometimes lead to unavoidable absences. If your child does need to miss school due to illness, we encourage you to reach out to your school nurse for guidance. In the meantime, help your student stay healthy and focused by encouraging good sleep, setting aside time for homework, and limiting screen time. We're excited to support our students in a successful second semester!

REMINDER: WINTER WEATHER INFO FOR JCS FAMILIES

As winter approaches, JCS reminds families to stay prepared for weather-related schedule changes. In the event of delays, closures, or early dismissals, decisions are made with safety in mind and shared through the JCS website, Facebook page, app notifications, local media, and text alerts. The first five snow days are built into the calendar, with remote learning for days 6-10, and potential makeup days for more than 10. Be sure your family has a plan for delays or early dismissals, and ensure students are dressed warmly for the weather. For more information, visit the JCS Delays and Closings page.

JCS OFFERS ONGOING SUPPORT FOR FAMILIES THROUGH PARENTGUIDANCE.ORG

We're proud to continue partnering with ParentGuidance.org to offer free, personalized coaching for families. Whether you’re seeking advice or just need some extra support, a coach is ready to help. Be sure to check out the January coaching flyer (en español) and consider registering for support today: https://cookcenter.info/coaching.
