Principal's Note

Dear NJES Families,

Spring is in the air! I hope everyone is enjoying our longer days and warmer temperatures! It's wonderful to once again have our students playing outside at recess and enjoying the sunshine.

First, we want to let our wonderful community know that Joyce Ashworth (an experienced educator and administrator) has been selected to become North Jefferson's permanent head principal for the next school year. Ms. Ashworth has over 30 years of experience in the education field and is excited to join the NJES family. Also, if you'd like to meet Ms. Ashworth, she will be joining us at the school's STEAM night on April 24th. Fliers to RSVP for this event will be coming home next week.

Secondly, while we've had some quiet weeks here at school - after spring break, we will be busy, busy! We will have field trips, the book fair, STEAM night, FFA farm day, Earth Day events, staff appreciation week, Kindergarten registration, WVGSA testing, and more. Please keep a close eye on your calendar and don't hesitate to call the school if you have any questions.

I also want to take a moment to give a shout out to Ms. Natalie Corley, our family involvement association, who has worked so hard this year to improve our communication with families and support our outreach efforts. She is an invaluable member of our staff. Thank you, Natalie!

Sincerely,

Priscilla Rodd

Third and Fifth Grade Visited Cool Springs

Third and fifth grade students from North Jefferson Elementary recently went on a field trip to Cool Spring Preserve. They got to meet turtles and a snake which are animal ambassadors at the preserve and learned interesting facts about them. They learned about beavers and got to build their own beaver dams which got tested to see if they would stop the water. They also went on a hike around the preserve in which they learned facts about the plants and animals that live at the preserve. They got a chance to use binoculars to go bird watching and played on the nature on the nature themed playground. It was a fun day of exploring nature!

NJES Lunch Policy

· Guardians can eat school lunch with their children every day of the week except on days with an early release or 2-hour delay.

· Guardians must bring an ID with them to school to be run through raptor.

· If guardians want to eat school lunch, they need to call and alert the school before 10:00AM in the morning.

· Guardians are encouraged to eat the lunch, rather than bring in outside food so that we limit distraction and feelings of jealousy.

· Because of limited space at our student tables, guardians and students will be asked to eat at a table near the back of the cafeteria.

· Guardians need to be careful and not photograph any other students, beyond their own children, when they are in school.

· If more than six guardians are signed up to eat lunch with their children, other guardians will be asked to come another day.

Lunch menus are sent home at the beginning of every month, and may also be viewed at; https://njes.jcswv.org/o/njes/dining.

Help Us With Dismissal

REMINDER: We are reaching out to ask you to please help us with our end-of-school dismissal and transportation procedures, starting on January 13th, 2025, after winter break.

Firstly, we are asking that all transportation changes be communicated to the office before 2:50 PM. Last-minute changes can lead to confusion that can stress and endanger students, and having extra time to communicate plans ensures that dismissal is more orderly and safer.

Secondly, as much as possible, we’re asking families who need to pick up students early do so by 2:50 PM. This earlier pick up time is also meant to minimize chaos at the end of the day so that students can be dismissed in the safest possible manner.

These changes are not meant to inconvenience anyone, but to ensure an orderly end to our school day. We also understand that issues come up, and you may not be able to meet these timelines, but we truly appreciate any adjustments you can make in this regard.

Please feel free to call the school with any questions. As always, thank you for your support and entrusting us with your children.
