A brand new school year is upon us and I for one am so very excited! Our building has been full of activity this summer getting every single room cleaned, organized, and prepared for our teachers to come fill it back up with life, creativity, and hopes for a phenomenal year ahead! We have an amazing staff of hardworking professionals that embody all you want a team to exemplify and I can't wait to start watching them do what they love to do - TEACH!

We have had many new families find a home in Shepherdstown Elementary, and we are thrilled to collaborate with these new Roadrunners and introduce them to our veterans! I have had the pleasure of giving tours to several of these new families and introduce them to our school on Church Street for our final school year! Meet the Teacher Night

Thursday, August 22, 2024 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. This night is reserved for the parents and guardians of our students to have time to listen to important school-wide information and see demonstrations of sites parents need to log in to throughout the year, as well as meet your child’s teacher!  We reserve this 1 night for parents and guardians only to have a special time to listen and talk with their school’s family!  

K-2nd Grade Parents/Guardians: 

Meet in the gym at 5:00 p.m. 

Meet the staff, learn about how visitors will now enter the school, the JCS App, learn about our school’s attendance goals and learn how to submit excuses from Mrs. Payne.  Mrs. Webb, our Lead Teacher will demonstrate how to use ROOMS, our new communication tool between families and school.

5:25 – 5:50: go to your child’s classroom(s) to talk with the teacher.

3rd -5th Grade Parents/Guardians: 

Meet in the gym at 6:00 p.m. 

Meet the staff, learn about the JCS App, learn about our school’s attendance goals and learn how to submit excuses from Mrs. Payne.  Mrs. Webb, our Lead Teacher, will demonstrate how to use Canvas for grades/assignments and ROOMS, our new communication tool between families and school.

6:25 – 6:50: go to your child’s classroom(s) to talk with the teacher.

School Hours:

Students in grades 1st - 5th will begin school on Monday, August 22, 2024.

Students who are riders/walkers and require breakfast can enter the school at 8:30. All other students and bused students will enter the school at 8:35 and can either eat breakfast or go to their classroom.

The tardy bell rings at 8:50 a.m.

Please send a note with your child on the first day of school with a description of how they will leave school by including their bus # or if picked up by parent. This is extremely important in getting your child safely and effectively home to you during our dismissal time!

Dismissal begins at 3:25 for walkers and riders. Bused students' dismissal begins at 3:30.

On the first day you pick up your student who is a walker or rider, you will be given a paper and marker to write your name and the child's name. Please bring this every day with you as it speeds up the efficiency and safely of getting your child to you from the staff on dismissal duty.

The first few weeks of school are extra important in your child learning routines and expectations, so please ensure your child is here everyday! Increasing our attendance every month is one of our goals we will be sharing with you, so please help in this commitment by making sure your child is here, as long as they are fever free or free of stomach viruses, etc.

Family & Student Handbook

Please take time and read our Family and Student Handbook for 2024-25. You will be given the last page of this handbook to sign and return by August 30th to show that you have read our information. You can check the box on the form if you need a printed copy of the handbook and we will send it home with your child for your convenience.

SES Family & Student Handbook 2024-25

Kindergarten

Our kindergarteners will begin with an orientation on Monday, August 19, 2024. Every student's family was mailed a letter explaining the orientation from the teacher they were assigned, Mrs. Lewis or Mrs. Webb. Orientation is a day for families to bring their kindergartner into the classroom and meet the teacher and explore the classroom together. There are 3 available times for families to come on Monday, August 19th and they include: 9:30 - 10:30 a.m., 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. or 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. We hope to see you there before they start their first day of school on Tuesday, August 20, 2024.
