January 2025!

From Principal Payne

j

I hope this news find you in great health, hopes and successes heading your way from the start of 2025! Everyone at SES has missed these walls filled with giggles, smiles, successes and pride for the past few weeks, and we are very excited to start 2nd semester and do what it takes to ensure our students are ready for their next steps to progressing. SES families are special, especially in regards to supporting the staff and all students with your participation in monthly events, volunteering, chaperoning, attending meetings, showing up to read to our young students, or by giving your time and attention to your children and their progress/difficulties their teacher communicates. For all you gave and supported us in 2024 - I thank you and I look forward to even more opportunities ahead to collaborate and share in our children's education.

2nd semester is filled to the brim with monitoring grade level standards, fun, and opportunities for families to be involved in ensuring students come to school every day rested, healthy, and excited. I shared new photos and information at our December S.E.A. meeting about our new school building that we are all very anxious to get inside of and build strong foundations from moving forward. If you had the chance to view Ranson's new building, then you have seen what we all have to look forward to receiving in 2025! Every month at S.E.A, you can receive the newest information about our building and transitioning into it, and I look forward to seeing more and more families investing in this opportunity to come together.

Please be looking this month for a survey coming home electronically for you to have a voice in your opinion related to the conditions for learning in our school. This information is very insightful in our understanding of communication and implementing changes or continuing successful practices. This month you will also have the opportunity to visit your child's teacher at our final PT conference on January 23rd from 5-7:00 p.m.

As winter approaches, we remind families to stay prepared for weather-related schedule changes. In the event of delays, closures, or early dismissals, decisions are made with safety in mind and shared through the JCS website, Facebook page, app notifications, local media, and text alerts. The first five snow days are built into the calendar, with remote learning for days 6-10, and potential makeup days for more than 10. Be sure your family has a plan for delays or early dismissals, and ensure students are dressed warmly for the weather. For more information, visit the JCS Delays and Closings page.

Thank you for all you do to continually support SES from the children to the processes that help our school run so smoothly!

Respectfully,

Mrs. Payne

Click MENU on our school website to see what's for lunch every week, knowing it is subject to change based on deliveries.

TRANSPORTATION:

Parents can visit the Jefferson County Schools website to learn more about student bus information: https://www.jcswv.org/page/find-my-school-and-bus-stop-information Parents can also view live updates on bus status each day by using the following link: https://www.jcswv.org/page/bus-tracker

SCHOOL HOURS:

Students who are riders/walkers and require breakfast can enter the school at 8:30. All other students and bused students will enter the school at 8:35 and can either eat breakfast or go to their classroom.

The tardy bell rings at 8:50 a.m.

Please do not pick up your child from school between 3:00-3:25, unless it is an emergency. You will have to pick up your children at the Kindergarten dismissal doors after 3:25 p.m. if picking up your child. You cannot park your car in the front bus loop during our dismissal time, either. Dismissal begins at 3:25 for walkers and riders. Bused students' dismissal begins at 3:30. Thank you for understanding the safety and commotion that occurs if we disregard this important policy.

When you drop off your child or items for your child, you will remain outside without having to show your ID and we will come to the door to take your child/items. If you need to pick up your child early or come into the building during school hours because you are volunteering/attending a meeting, you will continue to show your ID at the door before entering. Thank you for your help in being prepared for these instances!

SUBMIT AN ABSENCE ON LINE:

https://app.droplet.io/form/0YPd5K

Every time your child is absent from school, it is very important to submit an excuse within 3 days of their return or it is counted as unexcused. Our preferred and easiest way of submitting an excuse is by using this link found on either our school or the county's front page of both websites. You can even submit doctor's notes by uploading them in the link. Please build this preferred way as your habit of sending in excuses.

Remember, you get 10 days of excused absences by sending in a parent note, but after those 10 are used, they become all unexcused.

INSIDE SES!

Highlighting the 3rd Grade Team

Three times the charm is this incredible 3rd Grade Team of teachers!

Mrs. Hebert, Mrs. Mitchell, and Mrs. Schuyleman have worked hard to give students many different hands-on opportunities to learn so far this year. In October, they placed the continents and oceans on pumpkins or watercolor maps. In November, they all released butterflies that they watched grow from larvae through metamorphosis. They also did an end of unit Operating Room where students practiced skills they learned in math and language arts. Then in December, through Christmas Around the World activities, they investigated the significant cultural contributions of various groups creating our multicultural society

ATTENDANCE MATTERS ALL DAY EVERY DAY!

As we are striving to achieve our Attendance Goals at SES, we are celebrating our overall successes! Our December attendance rate of 93.3% dropped a tad, and some was due to the day Berkeley County cancelled school, but JCS remained open. Please make sure you are signed up for JCS news and information by downloading the JCSWV app. I am hopeful our January attendance bounces back up to an increase of 95%!

In December we are had an attendance competition between each grade level class. The highest overall attendance for each grade level was awarded with a Christmas Karaoke event for their class to enjoy before Christmas break began!

K - Mrs. Lewis 96.1% 3 - Ms. Schuyleman 95.1%

1 - Ms. Hebert 94.4% 4 - Mrs. Bernazzoli 95.4%

2 - Mrs. Goff 95.9% 5 - Mrs. Crouse 97.3%
