K-kids Clean Up

On Tuesday, April 28th, the Wright Denny K-kids spent their afternoon club hours cleaning up around our school's grounds. We appreciate their dedication to both school and community. Our staff commends their ongoing efforts during after-school hours to spread kindness and serve the community's needs.

Wright Denny's business partner, Kiwanis, sponsors our K-Kids after-school club. The club, led by Mrs. Karen Scott, has been active at Wright Denny since 2015. In addition to Wright Denny K-kids, she runs the K-kids Club at Page Jackson Elementary and the Kiwanis Builders Club at Charles Town Middle School. Frequently, the clubs are integrated and work on community projects together. Karen's tireless effort and energy have allowed students to enrich the lives of our community members.

The Charles Town Kiwanis Club has been an active business partner at Wright Denny for more than 20 years. We at Wright Denny are thankful for Kiwanis, K-kids, Karen, supportive staff sponsors Mrs. Fraley and Mrs. Indomenico, and the active parents, making this an effective endeavor. For more information about Kiwanis, visit the Charles Town Kiwanis Club on Facebook

Fourth-Grade Egg-citement

Fourth-grade classrooms at Wright Denny are currently participating in the WVU Extension 4-H Chicken Embryology School enrichment program. The Chicken Embryology School is an interactive life science program that uses avian eggs to demonstrate the stages of embryonic development. Students learn about the life cycle of poultry by observing chicken embryo development and the needs of poultry while using science inquiry skills, observation, comparison, measuring, and data recording.

The program has five lessons and spans four to five weeks during the incubation period for chicken eggs (21 days). First, the students learn to prepare the chick habitat. They then investigate the inside of an egg. They also learn how Scientists use technology in the poultry industry. Students have the opportunity to investigate chicken breeds and learn to set up a brooder and complete an Engineering Design Egg Catcher Challenge.

Ms. Emily Morrow, assistant professor and extension agent for the enrichment program, with her in-depth knowledge and passion for Vocational Agriculture, has sparked enthusiasm for learning. The children work eagerly and attentively together under her instruction. Wright Denny Fourth Graders are patiently monitoring their classroom incubators, awaiting the hatching. Everyone is egg-cited to be a part of this amazing program.
